Cannes

I’ve attended Cannes for two decades as a film critic, not a photographer. But in recent years, I’ve enjoyed shooting when the occasion arises. I took most of these photos at press conferences, which the stars attend right after their outdoor photo call. It’s a daily ritual. We are permitted to shoot for a few awkward moments when the stars arrive. They tend not to pose — we’re not the “real” photographers — which provides a rare occasion for candid close-ups. – BDJ
